Class 5

Year 5 2020-2021

The Class Teacher is Miss Phillips and the Class LSA is Miss Arnold.

 

Our topic to start the Autumn Term is Rainforests.  The children have chosen this topic themselves and have planned according to the 6 Areas of Learning and 4 Core Purposes, what they would like to do.  We are hoping to organise a field trip to support our learning and further our life experiences.

 

Spring Term 

Once returning to face to face learning there will be a focus on Empathy.

 

Summer Term

Whole School topic of ‘Perfect Pembrokeshire.’  Class 5 will begin with a focus on Caldey Island and the surrounding area.  The pupils have been busy asking questions about Caldey Island and planning their ‘Mission’ sessions around the 6 Areas of Learning and 4 Core Purposes.

 

Physical Education

Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please could children wear appropriate clothing.

 

Swimming 

Due to COVID-19 swimming will recommence when it is safe to do so.

 

Homework

Although homework is not mandatory, homework is encouraged to best prepare your child for National Testing. Please support your child to complete homework.

 

Reading - 2/3 nights per week

Times Tables Practice

English, Mathematics and/or handwriting homework may be sent home during the week.  This will follow on from classwork and help to consolidate skills being taught within the school day.

Pupils will also have their own password to HWB which can be accessed anytime.

🎣 🐠 🐟 Year 5 enjoyed a morning out in Tenby today interviewing ‘Roger the Fisherman,’ as part of their work on Perfect Pembrokeshire and in preparation for their performance with Chloe Wheeler later in the term.

🐝 Go Tell the Bees. Writing messages to the bees on ceramic tiles to help to try and restore the balance with nature and keep the bees near.

🌍🌴 Learning about the rainforest, deforestation, palm oil and climate change with Nigel from ‘Size of Wales.’ Pupils created floating gardens to save their crops from the flooding caused by global warming. 🦧
